Our Favorite Farm Markets

So, our Rhode Island cottages have many advantages, but a particularly lovely one is that because they’re located in Tiverton, guests have access to some truly wonderful farmer’s markets, farm stands, and working farms. Usually a quick and scenic drive, it’s the best way to spend a morning—gathering local fruit, veggies, and other ingredients for an impromptu picnic or ingredients for dinner. Whether they offer tasty treats or stunning flowers, we really can’t get enough of these local treasures!

Here’s where to go this spring and summer:

Tiverton Farmers Market
Located right at the end of Tiverton Four Corners, this newer market offers plenty of selections from local vendors—everything from local, pasture raised meat to fresh greens. It’s a great way to get to know the local community better. While the market is every Tuesday from 2-5:30 PM it also offers the occasional pop up market on Saturday.

Aquidneck Grower’s Market
If you’ve spent some time in Newport, why not swing by this wonderful market on your way back out to Tiverton. This market moves around Newport depending on the time of year but it features a dazzling array of prepared foods, baked goods, and herbs. Starting in spring the market pops up at Pell Elementary School on Saturdays and on Memorial Boulevard on Wednesdays. Visit their website for their winter hours.

Young Family Farm
Open seasonally, this farm is such a fun visit. There’s plenty of plants to buy for your own garden, plus tons of tasty bakery goods, veggies, fruit, and more. Their selection of seasonal cut flowers can’t be beat either. It’s also right across the street from Walker’s Farm Stand and honestly both are worth the visit because there are different things you can find at each!

Walkers Farm Stand
Open June through November, the fruits of the farms labor are literally on display. A mixture of fresh veggies and fruit are all grown locally. It’s such a fun browse in the summer, you’ll always end up walking away with a full basket because everything looks and smells so good. Don’t forget to check out their small selection of artisanal ingredients too.

Weatherlow Farms
There are few places as charming as Weatherlow Farms. With its majestic wood shingled barn and rows after rows of flowers blooming in the fields to its livestock munching on grass, there’s so much to see when you head out here. Its farm store offers pre-made dinners, delicious baked goods, seasonal bouquets, and more. You could easily spend hours here just taking in the pretty views and fresh air.

Peckham’s Greenhouse
Our go-to source for houseplants and outdoor plants, it’s always an adventure walking through Peckham’s. There’s so much beautiful greenery, succulents, perennials and more. It’s the perfect place if you’re looking for some landscaping help. Plus, we’ll never get over how fun the colorful greenhouses are outside. It’s such a fun place to browse that you’ll inevitably walk out with something green.

Electric Moon Peony Farm
Have you ever wanted to walk through row after row of blooming peony bushes? During peony season there’s no better place than this farm. With different colors and varieties, you’ll be tempted to gather these fragrant blooms by the armful. Visit their website for their seasonal hours and guidelines.

Sweet Berry Farm
More than worth the ride to Portsmouth! This farm’s big draw is its you pick your own berries and other fruit through the spring and summer. Beyond the berries, there are plenty of farm fresh finds, the most delicious pies, and plenty of options for lunch or dinner.

Also, if you’re looking for a snack on your way to any of these wonderful locations stop by Groundswell Cafe in Tiverton Four Corners for a quick pick-me-up.
