Halloween isn’t just for little kids, so get in touch with your dark side during Halloween with some grown-up decor ideas. While it’s safe to say the holiday won’t look the same this year, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate. Big parties are out but small, cozy family dinners are in. Cast a spell over your home with these subtle touches that are so pretty you won’t want to take them down come November 1st:

more candles!

Nothing looks more elegant on your table than thin tapers. Try a darker color like black or navy to dial up the drama. If you don’t want to set a formal table, arrange them on a sideboard or side table instead, and of course, they look very pretty nestled in a vintage candelabra.

vary textures

When you’re working in a monochromatic color palette it helps to change up the textures of your materials. So layering smooth ceramics on top of rough burlap or soft velvet makes the whole table feel more alive and interesting.

fall is for foraging

Beautiful branches, dried flowers, crunchy leaves, funky pods, and more, there are so many beautiful elements available right in your own backyard. Clip anything that has interesting textures and shapes, and tuck them into their own arrangement or mix them in with fresh flowers.

make use of clear glass containers

We love using oversized clear vases at a lot of our events, not only are they great for larger clippings, branches, or big floral arrangements they make great candle holders too. They keep pillar candles tucked safely away so you don’t have to worry about people brushing up against them. Here, floating candles look like they’re suspended in air and help vary the height of the soft candlelight.

When in doubt try tone-on-tone

Add sophistication to your tablescape by keeping colors consistent. In a room that’s light and bright maybe you embrace a darker palette for the table. Sticking with all black doesn’t feel boring thanks to the pops of color from the branches and pods. Layered black plates on a dark tablecloth feels refined thanks to the textures of each. If you want to channel more of a good witch vibe, white on white or white with wood tones and glints of gold or brass would look beautiful too.

Have some fun

Don’t forget mystical details! So less plastic skulls and fake blood, more vintage Tarot cards, colorful crystals, feathers, and vintage books. When in doubt try subtle witch-y, so items that feel organic and mystical.

Don’t forget the snacks

Sure, you could do mini candy bars but that’s no fun! Why not try a grown-up treat like an easy to make molten lava cake (seriously you probably have the ingredients in your pantry right now). Mix up spices and loose leaf teas to create your own witches brew. Have fun with it and settle in to watch a scary movie, we always get serious home envy from Practical Magic.
