A Moore House Holiday Tradition
We’ve just about wrapped up this year, going out with a bang in our usual busy style with a massive client install. Meaning we’ve more than earned a long winter’s rest. The whole family is escaping to Maine for a nice long two week break. We take one at the end of every year and it’s the perfect time to regroup and spend time together outside of work. Not surprisingly, we have plenty of fun traditions that make the holiday feel like fun. Here’s what the holidays look like for us. Not surprisingly, there is a slightly competitive element to how we like to spend Christmas!
Our Moore House Wrapping contest
“Every year we have a contest to get everyone inspired to wrap their family gifts. We start by all heading to separate rooms to plan out what our gift wrapping will look like, each person’s gift usually has a theme or uses a specific color. Whoever is the most creative wins! To keep it fair, we usually tap a non-family member to judge the winner, but sometimes we have to do a vote within the family to decide. One year Bromley did her wrapping with straws! We all try to really think outside of the box and use materials we have on hand. Not surprisingly, the contest is very serious and a little cutthroat. Blair always assumes she’s going to win, so that’s pretty funny too. The winner gets $50…if we actually end up remembering to award the prize money—so really it’s just for bragging rights.
After all the gifts are wrapped we set them all up underneath the Christmas tree, taking a lot of care to stage them so they look beautiful. On Christmas morning we make sure everyone gets up early for the magical reveal. We have mimosas and fresh scones; and we start by opening the Christmas stockings first and then move to presents, but we make a whole day of it! We love getting to hang out and enjoy our presents all together. It’s really the best, even though we’re totally exhausted by the end of it!”

This year it feels really nice to embrace a slower pace and pull out familiar family traditions. With so much going on in the world, a little familiarity definitely doesn’t feel like a bad thing. What are your favorite holiday traditions with your family? Share them in the comments below.
